Making Connections
Writing about interconnecting ideas across domains. Hosting dinners connecting people in real life.
One of the core elements of the craft of VC is making connections - between ideas and between people.
In the context of ideas, that means looking top down and seeing how business models from one sector could apply to another, how consumer behaviour evolving in one domain could create opportunity in an unrelated field, and recognising where scientific and technological advances could lead to a proliferation of enabling technologies.
In the context of people, it involves having the network to help portfolio founders meet the right person at the right time - from finding new customers to hiring employees and finding future investors.
Over the last year at AirTree I’ve started this work - hoarding ideas from across the internet and books in hundreds of Notion pages, connecting founders early in their journey through On Deck, and connecting more established founders with the most highly recommended executive coaches in Australia.
With this newsletter I hope to cultivate connection further. I’ll be sharing the ideas I dwell on most frequently, the writing I consume that makes me think, and the various ways I’m hoping to connect people in real life. That will include On Deck events, and likely more broad sector, stage and business model focussed small group dinners.
